With twice the platforms available compared to AMD’s previous generation accelerators, new support from commercial ISVs in key workloads, and growing customer adoption across AI applications and HPC, AMD is continuing to drive adoption of the software ecosystem named AMD ROCm 5 and AMD Instinct MI200 accelerators, stated Brad McCredie, who is vice president of AMD’s Data Center for Accelerated Processing and GPU. AMD Instinct MI210 accelerator is available now to the MI200 family, so the customers can choose the accelerator according to their workloads, whether they want access to exascale-class technology in a commercial format, or if they need leading-edge accelerated processing for large scale AI workloads and HPC.

The Lumi supercomputer which is powered by Instinct MI200 accelerators and AMD EPYC processors will deliver a generational leap in performance for large-scale simulations and modeling and also in deep learning and AI workloads to solve some of the biggest questions in research, stated Pekka Manninen, Director of the LUMI Leadership and Computing Facility, CSC. They have utilized AMD Instinct MI210 accelerators for getting hands-on experience with the Instinct MI200 family, preparing their scientists to tackle the many complex and challenging projects they will run once Lumi is fully deployed.

Powering The HPC’s and AI’s Future

The accelerators from the series of Instinct MI200 of AMD are developed to power some discoveries in some exascale systems, and also enable scientists, engineers, and researchers to tackle their most pressing challenges, from vaccine research to climate change. The AMD Instinct MI210 accelerators specifically enable exascale-class technologies for users who need powerful HPC and AI performance in a PCIe format. With the help of AMD CDNA 2 architecture, AMD Instinct MI210 accelerators can enhance AMD performance leadership in double precision (FP64) compute on PCI Express form factor cards. They also provide a robust solution for accelerated deep learning training offering a wide range of mixed-precision abilities which is based on the AMD Matrix Core Technology.

Drive with the ROCm Adoption
An open software platform that is allowing scientists, researchers, and engineers to tap the power of AMD Instinct accelerators for driving scientific discoveries, the AMD ROCm platform is built on the foundation of numerous libraries and applications powering top AI applications and HPC.

AMD expands their software platform With ROCm 5 by attaching a new type of hardware support to the AMD Radeon™ PRO W6800 professional graphics card and the series of Instinct MI200 accelerators from AMD, plus Red Hat® Enterprise Linux 8.5 support, enabling outstanding performance across key workloads and increasing accessibility of ROCm for developers.

Furthermore, through the AMD Infinity Hub, the main location for open-source applications that are optimized and ported on AMD GPUs, end-users can easily find, download, and install containerized ML frameworks and HPC apps. AMD Infinity Hub application containers are designed to decrease the traditionally difficult issue of installing and obtaining software releases while allowing people to learn based on shared experiences and problem-solving opportunities.
