AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D officially launched without overclocking feature

AMD’s Director of Technical Marketing, Robert Hallock confirms that the overclocking is not supported by Ryzen 7 5800X3D

Robert Hallock, AMD’s Director of Technical Marketing admitted that traditional overclocking is not supported by the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D which is AMD’s first processor having 3D V-Cache. Robert Hallock confirmed that During an interview with a popular youtube channel named ‘HotHardware’.

There is a hard lock for overclocking in the Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor. That means the users will unable to change the voltage and the frequency for overclocking. But users can adjust DRAM clock speed and Infinity Fabric to improve or boost the performance of the CPU. But the standard overclocking is not supported by this processor.

Robert Hallock also stated that the voltage of the processor does not scale over 1.35V. There is an optimization required for that particular area. The AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU has a large L3 cache which is placed on the 8-core chip has not been optimized yet for overclocking. We have to wait for this new technology to mature. So AMD decided to take a try to roll out the first 3D V-Cache part for gamers. This technology still has not been optimized for overclockers. For overclocking feature we have to wait for some time. So in the future, there is an overclocking feature will be added.

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D Specs:

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D has a 3.4 GHz of base clock speed. It also has a boost clock speed of 4.5 GHz. So we can see this processor has a 400 MHz slower base clock speed and a 200 MHz slower boost clock speed compared to the original Ryzen 7 5800X processor. Because of 3D V-Cache, this processor will deliver much better performance in gaming according to AMD. They claimed this CPU will be performed 15% faster on average compared to the Ryzen 9 5900X CPU.

Additionally, the absence of overclocking does not mean that this feature will be disabled for all AMD’s future processors. After overcoming the scaling problem, AMD surely will be added the overclocking feature to their upcoming SKUs with the same type of cache.

The release date of the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor is 20th April 2022. The launching price will be 449 USD. This processor can beat the Intel Core i9-12900KS processor in gaming. Intel Core i9-12900KS is going to launch on the last week of this month.
